Well, I was on the right track with my post a few hours ago that the Bengals needed to do something about their backup quarterback situation.

According to ProFootballTalk.com, Cincinnati picked up 2010 sixth-round draft pick Dan LeFevour today who was waived by the Chicago Bears. Interestingly, I wanted the Bengals to take LeFevour in the fifth round of this year's draft, but they took offensive lineman Otis Hudson instead (who was clearly a project and is now on the practice squad).

LeFevour struggled during the preseason with the Bears, but he had a remarkable college career at Central Michigan has he became the first player in NCAA Division I/FBS history with more than 12,000 career passing yards and 2,500 career rushing yards.

So, I like the idea of getting LeFevour on the roster. But why the hell did the Bengals waive JT O'Sullivan instead of third-stringer Jordan Palmer? O'Sullivan isn't very good, but he's still better than Palmer Jr. This is clearly a money-saving move on the Bengals' part. LeFevour will get the rookie minimum, while O'Sullivan was going to make a shade over $1 million this year (which is small change in the NFL for a No. 2 QB).

If coming up with the best roster was the objective, the Bengals should have signed LeFevour, but cut Jordan Palmer.
